But suddenly/unfortunately/as it happened when I went to open/unlock/insert the door, my key/lock/handle wouldn't work/turn/respond. Panic started to set in/creep up/bubble as the cold air bit/pierced/slashed through my clothes.
I tried/checked/fumbled with the lock again and again, but it was no use/useless/unhelpful. My phone's battery was almost dead, and I had no idea/way/thought how to get in contact with anyone who could help/assist/rescue me.
